Menopause Therapy
Menopause is a natural biological
process of the body and not an illness, however, the physical and
emotional symptoms that are triggered by menopause can disrupt
your sleep, leave you with low or no energy and cause sadness and
aggressive mood swings. These symptoms can can prove to be
hormonal changes in the body.
Menopause can be detected if it has
been at least one year from the date of your last menstruation
cycle. Menopause therapy utilizes hormone replacements to help
reduce the symptoms associated with menopause. Your physician may
also provide you with a prescription for low dose anti-depressants
if needed as part of your menopause therapy.
The symptoms of menopause are
usually enough to tell most women that they are making the
transition. Any concerns that you may have regarding irregular
periods or hot flashes should be discussed with a physician
trained in menopause therapy. If further evaluation is required,
your physician may perform a blood test to check your hormone and
estrogen levels. Your physician may also want to conduct a test to
determine the level of your thyroid-stimulating hormone as low
levels can cause similar symptoms like those of menopause.
Therapy for menopause also includes
treatment for the loss of bone density which can increase your
risk of osteoporosis. While hormone replacement therapy may
decrease the loss of bone density, it is important to take Vitamin
D and Calcium supplements. Part of menopause therapy is watching
your diet, as women tend to gain weight during the transition to
menopause. Another thing that you can do to help in this
transitional period is exercising at least three times a week.
Avoiding caffeine and planning your
exercise time during the day instead of before bedtime is
paramount to optimizing your sleep regimen. As part of menopause
therapy, speak with your physician about how often you should have
Pap tests and mammograms.
Menopause therapy is best achieved
through making sure that your hormone levels are in proper balance
to what they should be. Hormone replacement therapy should be only
administered by a physician educated and trained in integrative
health and menopause therapy.
